The Daily Show actually is satire - and often pretty funny at that. However, for a regular viewer it's clear the majority of the "shots" the show takes are at so-called "journalists" instead of actual newsmakers, be they politicians or otherwise.
Some of the most delightfully wicked satire of the MSM has been Obama related stories on The Daily Show - the Sat. Night Live skit with the fawning debate quesioners was one time but Stewart and company have done many more (and far more cutting) pieces relating to "deification" of Obama. Also, the show has a nose for hypocrisy, and although they don't always say it, many of their "stories" could include the line "haven't these idiots ever heard of videotape?"
Since we've had Bush Jr. in office during most of Stewart's run as host, news stories including Bush have played prominently in the skits. However, Stewart is already starting in on Obama via the appointment of Clinton White House folks to both his transition team & his new administration - given the primary battle there's plenty of irony there to work with.
Politicians have long promised more than they can deliver, but it never got so grand (or skillfully marketed) as Reagan's ascent to the Presidency. He literally promised the proverbial free lunch - cut the hell out of taxes while shoving HUGE sums at defense and it would all work out just fine, not only "paying for itself" but even making everyone's life from the CEO to the hourly laboror better off. It didn't work out that way, but Reagan (and I'll keep saying it - even Reagan himself wasn't "Reaganesque") assembled an electoral behemoth even Nixon (with the "southern strategy) didn't dream of so it's no wonder everyone (especially conservatives) have used Reagan & his political machine as the gold-standard.
IOW, both Obama and McCain promised more than they could ever hope to deliver - and that was before the financial house of cards (which turned out to be as hollow as the former Soviet Union) came crashing down. Over the next few years I think you'll see plenty of Stewart & his Daily Show crew satirizing the MSM's weak-a$$ed performance with none other than Obama as the "foil."
