They vary from state to state. I've never heard of significant fraud proven to have occurred anywhere in the U.S. since the 19th century. In my opinion, that's the "problem" that's being "pumped up".

I've never objected to the principle of photo ID for registration and perhaps even voting purposes. It's the details. Specifically, if a person qualified to vote has no reason to have a photo ID and photo ID is required to vote, such ID should be provided at no charge.

If a charge is levied, it's a poll tax.
